Losin' my faith in my family pride- Can't say that I never tried to make it all work out But it's too late now. Given up on everything I lost You see I cut my losses and move along and try to figure it out But it's too late now. It's too late to fix the things I do It's too late to make it up to you It's too late to put this bottle down It's too late for me to come hangin' around you now- I gotta do without. Losin' my faith in my family pride- I keep it bottled up inside Wish I could let it out But it's too late now. Buy another bottle at the liquor store Runnin' around with cut-rate whores ain't no way out But it's too late now. It's too late to fix the things I do It's too late to make it up to you It's too late to put this bottle down It's too late for me to come hangin' around you now- I gotta do without. Losin' my faith in my family pride- Sittin' here goin' right out my mind Wish I could figure it out But it's too late now. It's too late to fix the things I do It's too late to make it up to you It's too late to put this bottle down It's too late for me to come hangin' around you now- I gotta do without.

Times are gettin' tough now Like they were years ago Some say thing'll get better- How they could I just don't know Fightin' every day for nothing There ain't nothin' that I can do Gonna keep on working my ass off, Lord I'm just trying to make it through. Trying to make it best as I can Try to make it through Just trying to make it one day at a time Try to make it through Put in my hours down at the factory and just hope for the best Maybe if I'm lucky it won't close like the rest Well it won't surprise me workin' at this dump I'd be workin' down at the Amoco if there's any gas left to pump Well I'm tempted now and then to make some money on the side but I know when it all comes down I ain't got nowhere to hide It ain't the dealers that bother me It's all the dirty pigs And every one of the rats Run and tell everything I did My friends are gettin' busted and they're all gettin' sent away They were just trying to make a livin' like I'm doin' right here today Just trying to feed their families Trying to love their wives Friends shoulda watched out for the rats watched their backs, watched out for the knife And I would be just like 'em but I just can't take that chance 'Cause I know everything I've made- There ain't no way in hell it's gonna last So I'm livin' hand-in-mouth now Nothin' that I can do Gonna keep on workin' my ass off, Lord I'm just trying to make it through. Trying to make it best as I can Try to make it through One more year, one more day I'm just trying to make it best as I can Try to make it through.

Interlude 00:41
Born and raised in the Carolina Mountains, I was taught to take pride in who I am and where I come from. There's an old world grit that trickles down from the the mountaintops and it runs through the veins of this culture. On the other hand... there's also a plague. It's haunted these hills for years. It turns grit into grime... it turns proud souls into slaves.

I heard a rumor come through the vine You fell off the wagon, had a real rough time Smokin' that shit, you gonna kill yourself Well, it ain't my fault that you got nothing else Hide it from your family, hide it from your kin You score twenty bucks and run to do it again You think I can save you? That's just a dream I ain't playin' knight to a white trash queen You know it's a shame 'bout the world we're in Once you get started you just can't win Once you get in you can't get out It's the other side of the American South Doin' my best to get above this life It chases me down no matter how hard I try Got a past full of assholes, dope fiends and whores And I can't live in that world no more Just heard tell of double homicide Baby found in its mama's arms crying These the kind of people you been hanging around? Well it's a matter of time 'til you can't be found You know it's a shame 'bout the world we're in Once you get started you just can't win Once you get in you can't get out It's the other side of the American South If this is the life that you wanna live One piece of advice is all I got to give Keep your guard up and get yourself a gun And don't tell no one 'bout the things you've done You know it's a shame 'bout the world we're in Once you get started you just can't win Once you get in you can't get out It's the other side of the American South

Burn 02:48
Burn away, my sweet little baby Don't tell your mama what we've been doing lately- Running away to that sleazy motel. Won't you burn away like a proper lady? Keep your secrets where it's dark and shady Don't believe them when they say they won't tell. Burn it up, and don't look back Make sure you cover up your tracks Come on darling, cut me a break So I don't burn at the stake. Burning, burning like a bonfire We were innocent victims of our desire- Somehow we wandered off way too damn far. Skirting the truth ain't the same as a liar As long as it's for the sake of something higher like holding you close while laying under the stars. Burn it up, and don't look back Make sure you cover up your tracks Come on darling, cut me a break So I don't burn at the stake.

You know I always mind my own And I just want to be left alone I don't fuck with you, you don't fuck with me We got no bullshit and that's the way it'll be Some asshole's gotta get out of line and try to fuck up my damn good time Look here motherfucker, it's time to quit 'cause I'm too fucked up to deal with it Don't you know I don't take no shit? I been chewin' up fools and spittin' grit Oh yes I know just what I am And I stand up proud to be my own man No I don't care about your tender mind or your bullshit that's better just left behind So leave me alone, man, just fuck off and the spectators won't have to call the law Look here motherfucker, it's time to quit 'cause I'm too fucked up to deal with it Don't you know I don't take no shit? I been chewin' up fools and spittin' grit I don't look for trouble, it just finds me hangin' in my good company Some loud-mouth fucker wanna start a little shit 'til the hammer drops and the ball peen hits 'Coulda been avoided man, don't ya think? You'da been better off to let me sit and drink Look here motherfucker, it's time to quit 'cause I'm too fucked up to deal with it Don't you know I ain't a-havin' your shit? I been chewin' up fools Spittin' that grit

Try (Redux) 05:28
Y'know it's a God damn shame In this modern world we live in, we've come this far We've made leaps and bounds And we're still nothing more than glorified fuckin' monkeys You see somebody that looks different than you That thinks differently than you do That has a different opinion A different point-of-view And you automatically wanna assume that that's somehow a threat to your life And it doesn't have to be And it shouldn't be What the fuck is wrong with y'all people? You do you... let me do me What is wrong with that? Why is that so hard to wrap your minds around? And that goes for everybody. Everybody. Times are real fucked up now Worse than they been before Some say things'll get better for the uneducated and poor Fighting a whole new war for ignorance And the best that I can do Is to keep on livin' my way Lord, I'm just trying to make it through Trying to make it best as I can Try to make it through Trying to make it one day at a time Try to make it through Put in my hours down at the factory and hear people bitch and moan 'Bout the God damn liberal pussies trying to take everything they own And I gotta say it's kinda funny- They think they government's trying to take our guns But in eight years under Obama he didn't ask me for a single one Now I ain't sayin' he was perfect- You see, the man wasn't even close But what's standing in his place right now is less than a fucking joke It ain't the party that bothers me- It's the backwards fuckin' shit And the man wants to do away with folks who don't think just like him People livin' in fear of having families torn away People just trying to make a living like I'm doing right here today Trying to feed our families Trying to love our wives And people put him in power... How could you be so blind? Think he really cares about you? Think he really gives a shit? When all you heard him say was "Make America Great Again"? And I'm livin' in a world of fear now And the best that I can do is to keep livin' life my way- Lord, I'm just trying to make it through Trying to make it best as I can Try to make it through Four more years oh God damn Try to make it best as I can Try to make it through
